Diffract is a cross-platform desktop app for visually comparing files and folders. Side-by-side text diff with Myers/Patience/Histogram algorithms, recursive directory comparison, binary hex view, image/PDF/Word/Excel diff, three-way merge, a Git commit browser, and right-click "Compare in Diffract" integration. One-time purchase, no subscription, works offline.
I built Diffract because every time I needed to compare two files I was choosing between an ugly terminal diff, a diff view buried three menus deep in my editor, or a $60 tool that felt like it was designed in 2008.
I wanted something fast and good-looking that opens instantly, handles real-world files (generally code, but also Word docs, spreadsheets, PDFs, whole directories, binaries), and doesn't nag me with a subscription. It's a one-time purchase with a generous free tier and a 7-day Pro trial.
