Congratulations on launching this!
I have a quick question, as someone who has the PWA installed on his Android device, what does this app do beyond what the PWA offers?
@o_bahareth Not a whole lot at the moment, but the app will be able to interact with certain native APIs going forward. There are a few niceties around some of the features the OS makes available to native apps vs PWA. The native app will become kind of a progressive enhancement on top of the web app more than the PWA can be.
We'll see how PWA evolves vs Android in the next few years to really see where things go.
It's here!
We're so excited to launch our first iteration of the DEV Android App. Thank you to everyone in the community who has given us input and suggestions. Design-wise, we took the same approach as our iOS app by leveraging native shell/web views and will include more native code over time.
DEV is home to about 150,000 software developers that believe in sharing knowledge and supporting one another.
For those of you interested in publishing an article or starting a discussion, we welcome you to write your first post: https://dev.to/new
As an open-source platform, we also welcome contributions from the community: https://github.com/thepracticald.... There are plenty of little bugs and enhancements to be made!
Happy Coding!
Dev.to is a really fantastic platform, and I'm incredibly excited to see it becoming *even more* accessible to developers globally. Launching platform specific apps in addition to providing a PWA makes a ton of sense, given that the majority of the world uses Android as their primary mobile operating system. Here's to enabling the next billion π»
Pros:
I spend lots of time on dev.to as a writer + a reader. Being able to access dev.to natively from Android is a π₯ enhancement to the platform
Cons:
It's hard to decide whether I should use the PWA version of their site or the Android version, since they're both v good.
Awesome! I love dev.to - excited to see what you do with this in the future! Also, tiny tiny app guys well done πππ₯

If Launcherpro was a malicious app, then yes, theoretically they would have access to that. Codes Saver You can check that kind of thing in the permissions section of the app listing on the Android Market (listed below)
