I absolutely love this! It looks like you wrote almost all code yourself (not using a framework) and are using websockets and jQuery to make it all work. That is respectable. Any reason you didn't go with something like Vue or React?
I would love to collaborate on the code because I'm missing just one feature to play my favourite game. That is; the option to deal x amount of cards to a player blind. So, you get 3 face-down card and 6 cards in hand.
@jwktje Thanks! To answer your question... to be honest I was flip flopping on using canvas or the dom and then decided to do an old school front end with a modern serverless backend... a mullet of sorts 😉
That's a great idea, I will add this feature to the list of enhancments.
Hello Hunters,
A year ago, my wife and I had the idea for this project when we forgot to bring a deck of cards while we were on vacation. We searched for a platform that would let us play any game we wanted but didn't find anything suitable that allowed us to customize the card game. There are hundreds of options to play a specific card game, but nothing available when you want to play Gin Rummy one minute and Crazy 8s the next. Also, a lot of people we know, including our family, have a variation of a game that isn't quite by the rule book. This allows you to set up your game to include your particular "family rules"! So, with 2020 being crazy 🤪 and more time inside, we got to work and came up with https://deckofcards.net
Simply create a game and share the url or game ID with your friends or family.
Features:
- No download
- Simple UI
- Up to 6 players
- Keep score ✏️
- Play with chips 💰
- Chat 💬
- Pin protect 🔒
- Custom deck options 🃏
- Mobile & desktop friendly 📱
We hope you enjoy this project as much as we have!
Matt
That's awesome. I feel there's a lack of good technology for classic board games. There are a lot of great analog games and great video games. I think there's a lot of space in between for things like this.
EDIT: suggestion: It seems like your app is only a "playing cards simulator" that you can use to play anything you choose to. If that's the case I would try to make it more clear on the landing page. Maybe something like: "Play any card game you want",...
Hi - this is so cool, nice work! I'm going to introduce this game to my poker group and friends. Thanks for taking the time to share with the community!
