I've always loved making videos and hated editing them. Hours go into editing, even for a really short video, the boring stuff between an idea and a finished video.

So I tried the AI video tools. Most of them take over completely: you upload your footage, press a button and get back something you can't really change. It's fast, but it isn't your video anymore.

I wanted something in between. AI should do the tedious work, and I should stay in charge.

That's Cutcrow. It's a desktop video editor where you tell the AI you already use, Claude Code or Codex, what you want: "cut the long pauses", "make 3 Shorts from this interview", "add captions that match my brand". It makes real edits on a real timeline that you can see. You can tweak any cut by hand, and every request is one click to undo.

A few things I cared about:

You stay in control. The AI suggests and does the work. You decide what stays.
Your footage stays on your computer. No uploads, no accounts, no tracking.
No second AI subscription. It uses the Claude or ChatGPT plan you already pay for.
