AJ, thanks for hunting us... it's about time I updated this with some more info! Covailnt was guided by my own experiences freelancing, and often found myself pulling in my peers to either team up, solicit guidance, or to pass on overflow work or referrals. Putting together a project team was a huge value to my clients and took some of the pressure off, but I found my tools for coordinating resources were lacking. I'd spend a lot of time running down my lists of preferred collaborators only to find out people were busy or not taking on more work. I needed some way to focus on my contacts who had the open availability - and that's where the idea for Covailnt started. When a freelancer finds themself with a project that is too complex, a workload that is too heavy, or they simply want to delegate out certain tasks, they can head over to Covailnt. Using the platform, they can instantly see the real time availability of potential collaborators or browse fellow freelancers by skills, style and (eventually) projected performance metrics. Freelancers can pull in a partner, assemble a project team, or pass on referral work to someone with open bandwidth. At the same time, these freelancers are available as a resource and can source work from their own network. This equalized peer-to-peer power dynamic levels the playing field between "talent seekers" and "talent providers" (and breaks the traditional commoditized services model in the process). By giving freelancers the power to collaborate, Covailnt removes the traditional silos and restrictions of commoditized freelance marketplaces. Covailnt's metrics allow the community to self-curate, while providing the direction and feedback loops freelancers need to improve. This isn't just overlooked by other freelance-focused platforms... it is a fault in their model. Freelancer to freelancer collaboration is actively discouraged due to the risk to the marketplace's bottom line. Our long game: We are crafting a world where anyone can work independently, and have the same level of support, accountability, authority, and potential as they would within a “traditional” workplace. That includes financial security. By scaling into fluid talent recruitment and management offerings for enterprises, we hope to one day offer portable and affordable health and retirement benefits to the freelancing community.
