What do you think? …

Relevant? Yes. Necessary? Also, yes. To profiteer from such a thing. Hmmm, morally questionable.
Greg Hodson
@mietwise I second this 😶

@mietwise @gregjwww thanks for your feedback. It was never my intention to profiteer from what's happening (am currently here in china and lived in wuhan for many years). I am charging for the app mainly to pay for the server/api, hours spent building this and also other tools and updates i'll be releasing in the upcoming days.

@mietwise @carlosecgomes Thanks for the justification, I appreciate the transparency. That makes a lot of sense, good luck with everything.

@mietwise nothing wrong with supporting the author

@mietwise @gregjwww @carlosecgomes If you have other (paid) apps, I'd advise to use this app free, and use it as a platform to get more eyeballs to your other apps (via a simple "view our other apps" menu bar item that takes users to your website). This app can go viral, but forget about many people paying for it (the virus will only be relevant for a little while, I can't justify buying the app).

Profiteer from fear, pretty sad.

FYI, the Johns Hopkins University & Medicine maintains an up-to-date dashboard on the next page: https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.c...

šŸ‘‹ Hi ProductHunt! Introducing world's first and only CoronaVirus (2019-nCoV) Outbreak Tracker Menubar. šŸ¤” Problem & Solution I live in Beijing and the past couple of weeks has been very intense with the current CoronaVirus outbreak. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to follow the current outbreak in realtime, so i built one. ā˜ļø Data All the data provided in the app are from official sources (China). Recent research estimate that only 5.1% of infections in Wuhan are identified. The research also estimates that the current outbreaks will continue to expand to other Chinese cities and that infections will continue to be exported to international destinations at an increasing rate (already reported 27 confirmed cases outside China). šŸ™ šŸ’¬ Feedback Let me know if you have any questions or improvements! Stay safe. šŸ‘Øā€šŸ’» More features (News, Live outbreak dashboard, Telegram News Channel...) coming soon [ EDIT ] Thanks PH for the feedback, I've fixed the product pricing (name a fair price) feel free to download and spread the word. Also you can support us by checking our Air pollution app (supports +1000 cities) #staysafe [ NEW ] šŸ’¬ Join our Telegram News Channel for realtime news update or join the conversation /Carlos

Cool, a nice additition would be to add a world map
Carlos G.
@becomeferus thanks for the feedback. YES this is currently on the roadmap, should release it very soon (working on it right now). :)
Divyansh Patel
@carlosecgomes Much needed initiative for the community for staying alert and safe. I would suggest to add other features like - what steps should be taken when travelling, how to stay safe etc.
Carlos G.
@divjpatel thanks for feedback, yes i've set up a Notion File with more information about the virus (Prevention...), fee free to duplicate it/share or add more info to it. :)
rolo
indeed. a map similar to this one would be great! https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.c...
Sumit Hegde
@itsrolo @carlosecgomes Why is the data in the app different from this source? Also, the main number shown in the menu is just the number for China right? Why not show the worldwide number there?
Carlos G.
@itsrolo @sumit_designs the data is the same, probably the difference is on the breakdown (e.g our app shows the total confirmed cases included HK, Taiwan and Macau). Check their listed data sources e.g DXY and compare it to the app.
