Love the idea of being able to track how my body responds to things like getting in 10,000 steps a day. Is that effort really worth it, or should I be incorporating things like fish into my diet (or both). Can't wait to find out!

@rhianna_weilert Great question. Hormones are at a very low concentration in blood, and so they are not big drivers of the patterns that get evoked by food and fitness changes.
@rhianna_weilert@bobme While it's true that the hormones themselves shouldn't effect readings, women's metabolism change a lot during their menstrual cycle. For example, blood lipid concentrations can change by 10%. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc...
@rhianna_weilert@tdaltonc1 The COR data hypercube consists not of raw spectral data but differential spectral data over the course of a 21 day program. So the difference spectra contain information of everything that has changed from the start of the study to the end, due to any cause. But across a cohort of users, some portion of this is correlated with the specific food and fitness practice and some of it is not. The change due to menstrual cycle would not correlate highly across the population of users and so it would not become part of the response pattern.

@tdaltonc1@bobme "When Apple HealthKit launched in 2014 without support for menstrual data, the public was outraged over the exclusion of such an essential aspect of health tracking. Apple later added this feature, but its exclusion sparked a conversation about inclusivity in design of personal tracking tools." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc...
@tdaltonc1@rhianna_weilert I get it. What we are trying to show is blood response to food and fitness and at the moment, these models are trained on responses from a cohort that is not segmented at all, it is all research participants male and female young and old. Eventually when the community is larger we can see if there are particular segments or affinity groups where we could train separate models and that will be very exciting when we can do that. It is early days.
