I've been a lifetime comic collector, and over the years, I ran into a familiar problem: managing my collection was tedious, and getting it insured was even more labor-intensive. The original spark for ComicSnap came from the need for better collection management and export capabilities to streamline the insurance process. As a technologist by career, I quickly realized there was an opportunity to do more than just simplify collection tracking. Leveraging AI for grading seemed like a natural fit—offering collectors insights far beyond simple image scanning. I also saw an opportunity to bring real-world pricing data into the mix. By building an algorithm that pulls and analyzes eBay's data—the largest comic book marketplace in the world—I could provide collectors with dynamic insights into how fair market value is actually trending. From there, the toolset just kept evolving, creating a platform that grows smarter and more useful over time.
