Color Flags is a casual flag coloring game built for colorblind accessibility from day one. Every color has its name written out. Text to speech reads every color, screen title and fun fact out loud. Every paintable area has a unique visual pattern, so you never depend on color alone. 130+ flags. Free, no paywall, just removable ads. Built by a solo dev for his own colorblind son. Now available on both iOS and Android.
The patterns inside each flag section are a really thoughtful touch, honestly didn't expect that. Tried a few and the text to speech reading the colors out loud is kind of genius.

Honestly, having such a demanding tester at home made it way easier to spot the real problems. I'd usually just ask him "how would you want this to work so you could play it on your own?" and the answer would point straight at what needed fixing, the patterns, the TTS, all of it came from those conversations.
Really glad the patterns and the voice stood out to you, those were the two things I iterated on the most.
Love that you built this for your own kid, that kind of motivation shows in the details. One idea: add a short quiz mode where you match the flag to its country after coloring it, would help reinforce learning for kids and give some replay value.

Funny enough, someone else suggested a quiz mode too, must be a good sign. Right now the focus is really the coloring plus the fun facts, giving some knowledge alongside the fun, but replay value through a quiz makes a lot of sense. Keeping it in mind.
Love that you built this for your son, the patterns alongside color names is a really thoughtful touch. One idea: add a "share your colored flag" export that saves as an image with the pattern and color name labels intact, so users can show off their work on social media or send it to friends without losing the accessibility context.

That's a great idea, and it actually makes a lot of sense given how proud kids get when they finish a flag. Keeping the patterns and labels in the exported image is a smart call too, keeps the accessibility context intact instead of just becoming a plain colored picture. Adding it to my list of things to explore.

The patterns were actually one of the trickiest parts to get right, color alone just wasn't reliable enough, so shape had to carry real information too. Once that clicked for my son, it clicked for the whole design.
Shipping something this personal and watching it actually help people outside my own house has honestly been the best part of this whole process.
Honestly this sounds really thoughtful, especially the text to speech and pattern overlays. One thing that would be cool is a quick quiz mode where it shows a flag's pattern and you have to guess the country. Would be a fun way to actually learn flags instead of just coloring them, and it could use the same accessibility features you're already building in.

The original focus was really the coloring itself, plus the fun fact for each country to add some knowledge on top of the fun, not just coloring for the sake of it. But I really like the quiz idea, and it would fit naturally with the accessibility stuff already in place. Going to think about it 😁
