Collage Studio finds a layout for your photos instead of fitting them into a template. A genetic algorithm compiled to WebAssembly evolves thousands of layouts using a genetic algoritm and keeps the ones that fill the page best while giving every photo its fair share of space. It runs locally as a wasm module inte our browser, so your photos are never uploaded. Add up to 300 photos, pick a print or screen size, choose a variant as a mosaic or a photo pile, and export a print ready JPEG or PNG.

Hi Product Hunt!
👋 I'm Marcus, and I built Collage Studio because every collage tool I tried made me squeeze my photos into a fixed template and often just support just a handful of photos. So I went another way: a genetic algorithm searches for the layout. It started as a Kotlin side project based on Jian Fan's 2012 paper on photo collage layout, and I have since rewritten it in AssemblyScript and compiled it to WebAssembly so it runs in the browser. Each processor core runs its own population of layouts, they evolve over hundreds of generations, and the best ones come back as three variants with different algorithm settings. Because everything runs on your device, your photos never leave it. There is no upload, no account and no watermark, and it is free. A few things you can try: • Add anything from 3 to 300 photos, for a print or a screen • Make a favourite photo two, three or five times bigger • Switch between a tight mosaic and a loose photo pile • Export a JPEG or PNG at print resolution I would love your feedback, especially on how the layouts feel with your own photos and how fast it runs on your device. Thanks for taking a look!
