I built Collage Studio out of personal frustration. I couldn't find a collage tool that handled large sets of photos the way I wanted. Every app or service I tried either forced my images into a fixed template or produced rigid, predictable grids, often cutting away large parts of the images to force them into the layout instead of the other way around. I wanted something that arranged photos organically, filling the canvas as completely as possible and produced a high-resolution file good enough to send straight to a print shop for a large poster. Being a software developer, the obvious solution was of course to just build it myself!

Collage Studio - Collages laid out by a genetic algorithm, on your device

Collage Studio finds a layout for your photos instead of fitting them into a template. A genetic algorithm compiled to WebAssembly evolves thousands of layouts using a genetic algoritm and keeps the ones that fill the page best while giving every photo its fair share of space. It runs locally as a wasm module inte our browser, so your photos are never uploaded. Add up to 300 photos, pick a print or screen size, choose a variant as a mosaic or a photo pile, and export a print ready JPEG or PNG.
