Great application of blockchain technology to validate the value of digital art. Better yet: it's using Ascribe: Cointemporary exhibits digital artworks (including editions) by international contemporary artists, which can be purchased for Bitcoin. Each artwork is a digital file that is protected through a cryptographic certificate of authenticity by using Ascribe to form a unique entry on the Blockchain. This method is like a secure, transparent ledger that tracks the chain of ownership and verifies the title of digital property through its individual address.

Ascribe is fascinating, and I gladly supported their submission earlier this week - but this just seems to be hyped on the back of that. As a stand-alone product, Cointemporary is just selling digital art for a fixed price with bitcoin which isn't particularly interesting.

@dan_e_gray I dunno if I'd say "hyped". I'd say that it's interesting to see a platform solution like Ascribe followed up with an in-context demonstration of how someone might use that platform. I mean, there are TONS of Slack apps, Meerkat apps, and similar apps built on top of other things; why can't we celebrate the same kinds of things being built on Ascribe or similar solutions?

I'm happy to see a useful and functional app being built on something else turn up on PH. Makes total sense. This is just a site that sells digital art. Perceptions of what is interesting of cool are relative of course, but there is nothing to this website once you take out Ascribe.

@dan_e_gray but that's sort of my point! :) All those Slack chat channels wouldn't be that interesting w/o Slack...! But yes, interest is clearly in the eye of the beholder.
