The instant share link is the whole game for me. The moment I hit Stop, the link is ready — no upload bar crawling across the screen while I wait to send something that should've taken ten seconds. But the real win is on the viewer's end: no "sign up to watch" wall. Every link just plays, on any device, in any browser. That single thing removed the friction that used to lose me a handful of viewers on every Loom link I sent. Add no watermark and no five-minute cap on the free tier, and it covers everything I actually need for quick walkthroughs to teammates and clients.

What needs improvement

The webcam overlay has glitched once or twice during full-screen recording — disappeared mid-clip. And the editor is fairly basic right now, so if post-recording polish matters a lot to your workflow, that's worth knowing. Both feel like the kind of thing a small, focused team can tighten up over time.

vs Alternatives

Loom

Mainly Loom. Loom was solid, but the free-tier limits kept getting in the way, and I couldn't justify a monthly subscription for what's genuinely occasional use. I also tried a couple of Chrome-extension recorders that save straight to Drive — those were too rough to share externally with any confidence. Clipy won out because the share link is instant and viewers don't need an account, which is exactly where the alternatives kept tripping me up.

I mostly use it for sending quick walkthroughs to teammates and a few clients. The thing I like is that the share link is ready basically by the time I hit Stop no upload wait. And whoever I send it to doesn't need to sign up just to watch, which was the friction my Loom links used to hit. There's a Mac app and a Chrome extension, I switch between them depending on whether I'm recording a tab or the whole screen.

What needs improvement

The webcam overlay has glitched on me a couple of times during full-screen recording — disappeared mid-clip. The editor can also be improved.

vs Alternatives

Mainly Loom and Vidyard. Loom was fine but the free-tier limits kept getting in the way and I didn't want to pay a monthly fee for what's honestly occasional usage. Also tried a couple of Chrome-extension recorders that save to Drive: those were too rough for actually sharing externally. Picked Clipy because the share link is instant and viewers don't need an account to watch.

What's great

Tried a lot of screen recording tools, but most either ask for payment quickly or limit important features in the free version.

Clipy feels refreshingly simple compared to other tools. Clipy is lightweight, easy to use, and completely free for quick screen recordings without unnecessary complexity. Definitely worth trying 👍

What needs improvement

Really liked using because it feels simple and fast compared to many other screen recording tools.

One thing that could make Clipy even better is adding basic editing features and more sharing options in future updates. But overall, the lightweight experience is really good.

vs Alternatives

Before using Clipy, I tried tools like Loom, OBS Studio, VEED, and ShareX.

Most of them were either too complicated, heavy, or had important features locked behind paid plans. Clipy felt much simpler and faster for quick screen recordings, which is why I preferred it.
