A free macOS menu bar app that blocks adult content system-wide — a hosts-file wall, a DNS proxy, and enforced SafeSearch cover every browser and app. New in 1.3.0: a Safari extension that blurs NSFW images and video frames before you see them, using on-device AI (Core ML) — on Google, social media, and streaming sites like Netflix. No accounts, no tracking, no subscription — nothing leaves your Mac. Six languages. Free forever.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I'm Omar, and I built CleanBrowse because I believe everyone should be able to protect themselves and the people they love online — without a subscription, and without handing their browsing data to anyone.
CleanBrowse started as a menu bar app that blocks adult content at the system level, in three layers: 249,000+ known domains blocked through the hosts file, a DNS proxy that inspects every query, and SafeSearch enforced at the IP level on Google, YouTube, Bing, and DuckDuckGo. Working below the browser means there's nothing to uninstall or reset your way around.
But blocklists have a blind spot: explicit images don't only live on blockable sites — they show up on pages you actually use. So 1.3.0 adds a Safari extension that classifies every image and video frame with a Core ML model running entirely on your Mac, and blurs anything explicit before it's rendered. Images start blurred and are only revealed once the model clears them. No image, URL, or pixel ever leaves your machine.
It's free forever, open source (MIT), and speaks six languages.
I'd love your feedback — especially on what you'd want the image filter to catch next. Ask me anything!
