Claude Code is powerful but invisible — you watch terminal output and guess what's happening to your files. Claude Companion runs alongside it and shows the session live: a mascot that reacts to processing/done/error states, a feed of every file read and edit made, real-time stats, and contextual nudges when context is growing or it's time to run tests. Ships three ways: VS Code extension, npm CLI, and a macOS menu-bar app. Local-first — code and prompts never leave your machine.

Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built Claude Companion because I kept staring at Claude Code's terminal output and wondering what was actually happening — what files it was touching, what was working, what was breaking.
So I made a visual layer that runs alongside it: a small mascot that reacts to processing/done/error states, a live feed of every file read and edit made, and contextual nudges when context is growing or it's time to run tests.
It ships three ways - VS Code, CLI, and a macOS menu-bar app — and your source code never leaves your machine.
This is v1. I'm a solo dev and the product is closed source for now while I'm still iterating on architecture. I'd love honest reactions on: what's broken, what's missing, what would actually make this useful enough to keep installed.
Install methods: VS Code Marketplace or npm install -g claude-companion-app
Feedback form lives inside the app once you install.
Thanks for taking a look 🙏
