Hi Product Hunt! I built Clacksmith because I wanted satisfying keyboard sound feedback on macOS without granting Input Monitoring access.
Clacksmith works with count-only key-down and key-up values supplied by macOS. It never receives key identities, key codes, characters, typed text, the source app, clipboard contents, or document contents.
You can choose a bundled sound pack, set volume and audio output, import compatible packs, or create a local sound pack from audio you own. There are no accounts, analytics, ads, or subscriptions.
The privacy-first approach has trade-offs: modifier-only presses, key autorepeat, and some media keys don’t trigger sounds. Clacksmith is a one-time $1.49 purchase for macOS 14 or later.
I’d love feedback on the sound-pack workflow and which keyboard styles you’d like next.
