While I love the ambitious statement of creating the "perfect text editor" unless you support third-party plugins you'll never attain nirvana. While some will be perfectly happy with your default functionality, most won't even bother. Developers like to trick out their text editors, not as a point of fashion but function. We like to integrate outside tools and customize our editors to best suit our needs or project.
That said, it's looking good and I'm sure for some folks this is a good fit.
