Chillar's is a free expense tracker, money manager and expense planner. Multi-currency, exact decimal arithmetic, and everything you enter exports in one file. Chillar's is a free, privacy-first web money manager that tracks every transaction, account, and currency in one place - so you can chill about the rest.
A message: "I just found out I owe three different friends money and I have no idea how much." That's the moment Chillar's started.
We'd tried every budgeting app out there between us. Spreadsheets abandoned by week two. Apps that locked you into one currency. One that lost track of who paid whom on a trip and just... gave up. So we decided to build the thing ourselves.
Money tracking that actually survives contact with real life: multiple accounts, multiple currencies, bills that sneak up on you, and the informal IOUs between friends that never make it into any app. Existing tools solved one slice of that and broke on the rest.
We leaned on AI to move fast - describe what a screen should do, watch it come together, use it, describe the next one. It felt less like typing code and more like directing a fast, literal builder.
Then we hit a moment that changed how we worked: a test account's balance was off by a few cents. Money that shouldn't have existed anywhere. Fine for a demo. Not fine for something people trust with their money. We stopped, rebuilt how the app handles money under the hood, and started checking every calculation by hand against numbers we already knew were correct. AI helped us build fast - it didn't get to decide what "correct" meant. We did.
Weeks later, Chillar's holds every account we have, handles more than one currency, reminds us about bills before they're due, and keeps track of who owes who - no spreadsheet required.
We could have called it Expense Tracker, or Money Manager, or something equally forgettable. We didn't. Chillar means loose change back home - the coins you never quite keep track of. Add a little chill to it: careful with every coin, relaxed about the rest - Chillar's
Still building it, and we'd love your take - what's missing, what you'd change. It won't be perfect on day one. It'll grow with time, and with people like you telling us where it falls short.
Track every coin. Chill about the rest.
