But I was still making the same mistakes over and over. I realised nobody was telling me WHICH specific mistakes I kept making. I'd hang pieces in the middlegame constantly but was studying openings. Total waste of time. The problem I wanted to solve: Generic chess improvement advice doesn't work because every player has different weaknesses. One person blunders from king safety issues, another from missing tactics, another from bad openings. You need to know YOUR pattern, not a general one. How it evolved: I started just wanting to detect blunders. Then I added pattern grouping. Then I realised the patterns should drive everything — your puzzles, your lessons, your training plan. The whole app reorganised itself around that core idea. ChessForge is my first real product — first time building a full stack app, integrating a chess engine, setting up payments, deploying to production. Learned everything as I went.
