I've played chess my whole life. It's perfectly balanced and that's exactly why every game starts to feel the same. The best move is always the "correct" move. Theory wins.
But I always wondered what would happen if chess could have some "extras"?
So I used AI to build ChessDroids: Chess with robots, items, gold and explosions.
Every move you make earns gold, and you spend it mid-match on items that bend the rules. That creates a decision chess never had: do you play aggressive early to farm gold faster, or play patient and save for one game-changing item? Suddenly the correct move isn't always the best move.
The whole game was developed by AI and I used ChatGPT to generate the icons, lore, logos, etc..
Still chess at heart. if you can read a board, you can play. But the rulebook won't save you here.

Love the gold-for-items twist on ranked chess, feels fresh without breaking the spirit of the game. One thing that would help a lot: a quick practice mode against bots where you can test item strategies without tanking your Elo, since experimenting in ranked right now feels pretty risky.
@dolanereme43914 Hey, thanks for trying out. There's a local mode with bots if you want to skip the matchmaking wait. Curious what you think of it.
Played a couple of games and the smoke screen really does scramble plans, way more fun than I expected. Loving the ranked matchmaking too.
