Hey Product Hunt, I'm David, the solo dev behind Chatty Lingo.
Here's the problem I couldn't shake: I spent a lot of time on language apps. I built up a respectable vocabulary, kept my streak alive, felt productive. Then I'd meet someone who actually spoke the language — and freeze. All that tapping, and I still couldn't hold a basic conversation.
The issue isn't that we don't know enough words. It's that we never practice the one thing that's scary: talking. And when the real moment finally comes — you're traveling, standing in front of an actual native speaker — there's no safety net at all. You just freeze.
So I built Chatty Lingo to cover both halves: low-stakes practice, and a safety net for the real thing.
Two ways to use it:
- AI Scenes — Pick a situation (a café, a job interview, checking into a hotel) and the AI plays its role in your target language. Mess up as many times as you want. No human watching, no pressure. Available 24/7.
- Live Translator — Out in the real world, talking to a local? It translates the conversation in real time so you can actually communicate — and afterward you get the full transcript to review and learn from. The moment you froze becomes your next lesson.
There's voice support so you practice speaking, vocabulary building, and progress tracking so you can see yourself improve.
