I have been beta testing this product for a while, love it even though I think it's so freaking hard to build out online communities - hope the evolution of the product will make conversations on twitter more meaningful and organized ^_^
Thanks for a chance to participate in beta @erictwillis
With the new revelation by @nero that Twitter is hell banning users it doesn't agree with politically.
I have serious doubts about the long term viability of platform products like this @erictwillis
This is a fantastic idea. I've been a private and public list power user for almost 8 years now and realize the power of segmenting Twitter into interests.
Kudos!
@blendahtom Hey Tom! It's been a while! I hope everything is fine with you. I believe channels will open things up for non-power users who don't fully grasp the power of lists nor have the time/desire to curate them.
This sound really interesting.
So I guess what you're doing is trying to mix twitter and reddit. This might make BIG sense.
179-th in the queue. Can't wait to start playing with it.
@erictwillis cool idea. One of the data elements that might fall out of these communities is incredible metadata (accounts who participate; where they are located; topics they discuss in the small groups). Is your long term vision to build a free service that might be supported by advertiser-sponsored channels or do you have another revenue model in mind?
@grmeyer You're very close to what I'm thinking. I also think it would be awesome to do a revenue share with the channel owners (opt-in advertising for their channel(s). If you have a huge number of people chatting about a live sporting event, there are some interesting things you could do to engage them during game breaks, etc.
Report
@erictwillis yes, fine line between "sponsored content", e.g. interactives during breaks and "landing pages", which end up looking like ads. There may also be an interesting business here creating a parallel landing page using the same technology (imagine the NBA asking you whether you like the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Golden State Warriors better, and then using that data to build a lead list for single-ticket and subscription leads).
