Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm the maker of Castmates. It's an AI roleplay app where the entire model runs on your iPhone instead of in the cloud. I built it because every AI companion app I tried wanted an account, sent everything I typed to a server, and stopped working the moment I lost signal. That felt backwards for something as personal as roleplay. So Castmates flips it. The AI generates and stores everything on your device. No account, no login, no data leaving your phone, and it keeps working in airplane mode. What you get: 32 hand crafted characters across 8 genres, from fantasy and sci-fi to romance, mystery and anime 96 ready made scenarios to jump straight into a story A creator to build your own characters with custom persona, voice, appearance and opening scene Persistent memory, so characters remember who you are and pick the thread back up days later Fully offline and private by design The hardest part was getting genuinely good roleplay out of a model small enough to live on a phone. Characters that stay in role, narrate scenes, and don't forget who you are halfway through. That took a lot of evaluation work and it's the part I'm most proud of.
