Most self-tape apps are glorified teleprompters; they don't listen. CastingNinja is an AI scene partner that does. What makes it different: • AI reads opposite you in a natural voice (not just text on screen) • Listens as you speak — auto-advances the moment you finish your line • No tapping, no fixed timers — flows like a real scene • Rehearse, record, and export broadcast-ready self-tapes in one app • Free tier with unlimited practice sessions

Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I built CastingNinja because I kept watching actor friends skip auditions, not because they weren't ready, but because they couldn't find anyone to read the other role at 11 pm on a Tuesday.
The problem :
Self-tapes are how most casting happens now. Every audition needs a "reader," a friend, partner, or coach to read the opposite character's lines while you perform. Readers are expensive ($30–75/hr for coaches), flaky, or just unavailable when you need to rehearse. Meanwhile, casting turnarounds keep shrinking.
What CastingNinja does
An AI scene partner that actually listens and responds in real time:
• Paste any script (PDF, text, or type it in), pick your character, and AI plays the rest
• AI reads opposite you in a natural voice, with adjustable pacing
• Listens as you deliver your line and fires the next cue the moment you finish, no tapping, no timers
• Built-in recorder with framing guides → one-tap export of broadcast-ready self-tapes
• Unlimited practice — run the same scene 20 times at 2 am, no judgment
Why this isn't just another self-tape app
Existing apps are glorified teleprompters. They don't listen. You still tap or wait on a fixed timer, which breaks the performance. I spent months on the speech-matching engine two-tier matching (exact first, fuzzy after a pause, with timing guards) because that's the feature that makes it feel like a real scene partner, not a dictation app.
What I'd love feedback on
1. Actors — does the auto-advance feel natural? What scripts break it?
2. Coaches — would you use this between sessions with students?
3. Everyone — what would make you keep using it daily?
What's next
• Android (in progress)
• Casting-director feedback loop (share tape → get timestamped notes)
• Watermark-free free-tier exports

I'll be in the comments all day (Pacific time). Ask me anything about the tech, the acting industry, or why building an AI reader was harder than it sounds.
