Carpool-Q started with my own family. My wife and I have three kids, and over the years we’ve been part of a lot of carpools for school, sports, and activities. Like most parents, we coordinated everything through group texts. That works reasonably well until schedules change, someone swaps a day, or you’re scrolling through dozens of messages trying to answer a very simple question: “Who’s driving tomorrow?” I went looking for a better solution and was surprised that I couldn’t find something that worked the way I thought a family carpool app should work. Many products were built around school transportation, route planning, or ride services rather than small groups of parents simply sharing driving duties. So I started building Carpool-Q around the way our own carpools actually operate. After about a year of development and real-world use with our families, we launched it publicly in the summer of 2026. We still use Carpool-Q for our own kids’ carpools, which means I get reminded pretty quickly whenever something could work better.
