CaringBand is a startup that I co-founded along with my wife Lindsay and friend, Erin Meadows. It all started because Lindsay thought it would be great to give people who were hurting access to more frequent moments of encouragement; as she recognized the limitations of traditional communication channels through her own Mother’s battle with cancer. Imagine a time when a close friend or loved one you knew was hurting, and they were in your thoughts constantly. Like most others, you probably reached out via text, mixing in phone calls or in person visits whenever possible. What if in combination, there was a way for that person to know every time they crossed your mind? These otherwise uncommunicated thoughts would be turned into encouragement to brighten their days. How awesome would that be?! When you give someone a CaringBand bracelet to wear, you are giving them real-time encouragement from not only you, but everyone that cares about them. Through the CaringBand app you can send preset encouraging message with just a couple touches on your phone. When the message is received, the CaringBand bracelet lights up and give a gentle pulse, indicating that someone is thinking of them. From the app the recipient can see the message and who it came from. Best of all, is it’s not like a text that warrants reciprocation so there’s no burden given to the receiver whatsoever. CaringBand was simply created to keep you connected with people who simply want to remind you that you’re loved.
