Capptivo is a free, open-source screen recorder and demo editor for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Record locally, add follow-cursor zooms, polish the look, burn on-device captions, and export, no account, no subscription. Give your demos the spotlight they deserve.
@idboussadel the no account bit only really holds if nothing leaves the machine, so im curious, does the speech model actually ship inside the app itself?
@alex_watson2110 Captions run fully on-device, your audio never gets uploaded for transcription. Capptivo uses Whisper via whisper.cpp on your computer. The speech model isn’t baked into the app download; it’s a one-time download you trigger from the Captions panel, then it stays on your machine.

love seeing more open source tools like this. the fact that everything runs locally with no account or subscription is a huge plus. Congrats on the launch!
@heli_vora Thanks so much! Paying $29 for just a recording app felt like a real struggle as a student, so I built my own and open-sourced it for students and anyone who can’t afford a subscription but still wants something with the quality of a paid app, or even better.
The fact that Capptivo is open-source and has no account or subscription requirements is a huge win - really lowers the barrier for creators to make high-quality demos without added hassle.
@aymnart Thank you so much! That was exactly the goal to make creating high quality demos accessible to everyone, without subscriptions, accounts, or vendor lock-in. I really appreciate your support!
on-device captions plus no signup wall on export is a combo that basically doesn't exist in this category right now.
