Hi Product Hunt! 👋 I’m the indie developer behind Canvas Editor.
While building ROBOFIT, my food tracker, I kept needing quick image edits: cropping screenshots, resizing app assets, preparing transparent PNGs, and exporting WebP files.
Photoshop is powerful, but I rarely need most of its features. For these small, everyday tasks, its subscription felt expensive for what I actually needed. Opening a separate editor also interrupted my workflow when I was already browsing for images and references.
I wanted something simpler: right-click an image, make a few edits beside the webpage, and export it.
So I built Canvas Editor, an image editor that lives in Chrome’s sidebar.
Right-click a web image and choose “Edit image in Canvas Editor.” The image opens beside the page, ready to edit.
What you can do
- Crop precisely: use exact pixel dimensions or a fixed aspect ratio for banners, screenshots, and app assets.
- Create transparent PNGs: remove a solid-color background and export the result.
- Capture and edit: select a region of a webpage and edit it immediately.
- Work with layers: combine images and text with opacity and blending modes.
- Make selections: rectangular, elliptical, polygonal, and magic wand tools.
- Draw and retouch: brushes, an eraser, a clone stamp, gradients, and a pen tool.
- Handle everyday edits: resize images, adjust colors, rotate, and flip.
- Export in useful formats: PNG, JPG, WebP, and layered PSD.
Local editing. No account needed to get started.
Images are processed locally in your browser, and all editing tools work without an account.
Free tools, with an optional one-time upgrade
- All editing tools are free.
- Free exports have no watermark and support up to 1280px on the longest edge.
- A one-time $9.90 Lifetime upgrade unlocks higher-resolution exports. No subscription.
A couple of practical details: background removal is designed for solid-color backgrounds, and PSD support is currently export-only.
I built this around the image tasks I run into as an indie developer. I’d love to learn how it fits into your work, too.
