Hi! I’m Jaclyn, an iOS developer, and Calamari is my passion project. The idea started as a running joke with friends. Every time we went out to eat, we could never remember one simple thing: did we actually like the calamari here? So we started rating dishes in our group chat and sending each other scores. Eventually, I thought… why not turn this into an app? That joke turned into Calamari: a fun, light-hearted, simple way to rate and remember the food you try. I wanted something quick and effortless; a simple way to remember the food you actually liked. No pressure to write a full Yelp review, just a fast way to capture the moment. Your guide is Cali, a squid with strong opinions about every bite. With Calamari you can: • Snap a photo of your dish • Rate it from 1–10 • Save it to your personal food journal • Discover what’s good near you • Follow friends and compare favorites • Earn badges along the way Whether you’re tracking the best pizza in town, remembering that amazing ramen spot, or finally settling the question of who has the best calamari, the goal is simple: never forget a great meal again. The app is built with SwiftUI and CloudKit, and I kept the philosophy simple: no ads, no data selling; just a fun way to keep track of the food you love.
