the retro program-guide angle is a genuinely fun idea, turning a library you already curated into something that feels like appointment viewing instead of endless scrolling. one thing I'm curious about: on a shared household Plex server with wildly different tastes (kids' shows vs adult content in the same library), does everyone see the same 425 channels, or does it build a separate guide per profile

Right now, everyone sees the full lineup of 425+ channels. They’re generally ordered from family-friendly channels near the beginning to more adult-focused channels toward the end.
Next week, I’m releasing the first beta with iPhone and iPad interfaces. Since multi-device support makes profiles much more important, I’m planning to build profile support into the app before the public launch of iPhone and iPad support.
@bunnyearstv makes sense to sequence it that way, no point building profile support before there's a second device to actually need it on. one shared 425-channel guide is a fine default for now anyway, most households don't split by profile for live TV the way they do for streaming. will be watching for the iPhone/iPad beta
How does Bunny Ears TV actually pull in 425 channels without you setting anything up on the Plex side, is it scraping public streams or partnering with providers?

All media is self hosted and served from Plex Media Server.
The app takes meta in as an input, and using a custom ML file, returns 1-5 channel names for every movie and tv show in your library using Apple’s neural engine.
After that is processed, your media is placed in the guide where your own media is laid out into a traditional TV guide interface.
Incredibly fast and easy to set up - took 1-2 minutes. I was shocked! Really cool app. Helps rediscover content that felt lost.
Hoping a free tier remains — not really sure why it uses a subscription model
Edit: Ah, I see the One Time Purchase options. Feels a bit steep just for wanting to jump to the beginning. Hopefully it can tier out a bit more (e.g., $5-$10 tier)

As far as the price goes, I've spent about 6 months of regularly working on this niche app. If I had a lifetime tier for $5, and got let's say 500 orders, that's not enough to sustain the amount of time I'm putting in.
To give you one example, the 425+ ML channels took months of collecting media metadata (over 250,000 movies and tv shows), additional data enrichment, data cleanup, training, testing, more training, hearing from the beta community about mismatches, more training, etc. I bought a Mac Studio just to handle this portion.
I know it all looks simple, but that's by design due to the thought and work I've put in. I hope you don't take this message the wrong way. I just want to illustrate why the cost is what it is.
Last thing I'll add, the roadmap includes some additional features that may require I pay ongoing API fees. The subscription model helps expand what I can do.
Hopefully after some additional use you'll find it's worth the price tag. Thanks again for the download and your input!
Been beta testing this for a few months now and it's turned into a daily driver for me, not gonna lie.
The pitch is simple — takes your Plex library and turns it into actual live TV channels with a retro guide — but living with it day to day is where it clicks. Channel surfing is weirdly satisfying again. I've rediscovered stuff buried deep in my library that I'd totally forgotten I had, just because it pops up on a channel instead of me having to go hunting for it. The only thing holding me back from dropping Youtube TV is live news and sports.
Also worth calling out: the dev has been really on it during the beta. Fast responses to feedback, updates landing quickly, feels like an actual person building this rather than a faceless team.
My wife uses it unprompted now too, which for a home media setup is basically the highest praise I can give something. Solid launch, congrats 🙌
