What do you think? …

Filip Gres
Do you plan to develop iOS app?
Andrew Schmelyun
@filipgres That's definitely in my mind for down the road, building both iOS and Android apps out. I've tried to build the site as it is to be as mobile-friendly as possible, but if there's enough desire for a native app I'd get started on developing one within the next couple months.
Deepak Jha
@filipgres @aschmelyun I think a mobile app for iOS and Android would be really needed.

In France we have a bunch of apps that connects (scraping or API) to bank accounts, I don't know if it is possible overseas or if it is your will to go full manually, by the way this is not a downside and has a lot of benefits : I prefer my good ol' spreadsheet than automagic apps so that I can be aware of exactly each of my expenses. What I found missing in personal finance projects that there sometime exists in projects doing finance for businesses, is the ability to forecast/make scenarios : - hability to register expenses in the future, - making scenarii like: - - "what if I pay all my loan today ? Will I overdraw my account, where can I cut to do so? How it will impact my accounts at N+1 ?" - - for independents who doesn't need a full corporate solution, "what if I close/don't close this client ? what if he doesn't pays, how many months in good financial health do I have left ?" - or even simply "what if I buy this expensive item upfront ? in x payments ?"

@tom_sp I REALLY dig the question ability. I've always just accepted the budget/financial tracker apps I've used over the years as just "good enough", but I now really want something like that implemented.

I think one of the biggest obstacles that prevents me from using such apps or softwares to track my spending is due to my "laziness" or reluctance to have to manually enter things one by one. Is there anything done with Budget.cool that makes tracking a breeze or does anyone else knows of examples as to people trying to simplify this entire capturing process.
Maria Ithaca
@swiftpolar Hi I have been looking into products that do what you mention but they a) do not work in every country, b) have a subscription fee each month. I like this simple manual way, even though I am also lazy like you. But I saw that in order to travk my finances, I must put some effort
Andrew Schmelyun
@swiftpolar Hey Lee, I completely understand the "laziness" aspect, however I built Budget.cool to be manual-entry only in order to accomplish two big things: building a habit to manage my budget and enter in what I spend when I spend it, and confronting my spending every time I have to enter in a new item. For me, automated systems never really made me accountable for going over a budget. I was never forced to see each dollar come in, because it was just pulled automatically. Entering everything manually is a more intimate process, but I hope you do find a tool to your liking!

@aschmelyun @maria_ithaca I completely understand these points and indeed they are certainly valid points. I do know that my bank here do support telling me how much I've spent based on categories if I'm swiping card. I guess for me personally for day to day expenses I don't really want to keep keying in? For example food, groceries etc. For big expenses makes sense to key in. Accountability can be in the form of reminders and warnings. For example I set a budget for food and if I'm reaching above it (based on a trend say $400 a month and it is barely half a month and I'm already at $200) a warning pops up. Haha, not too sure if that is possible but yeah for very mundane expenses I don't want to keep keying them in. Or perhaps I'm missing the point with such expenses trackers.

It would be pretty cool if you could add other coins. For example im from Uruguay and I can't find the "peso uruguayo" so it's a little bit of a problem to transform my expenses to dollars. Great design, love it :)

How do you handle personal data?
Thien Nguyen
How about Vietnamese currency support?
Andrew Schmelyun
@tat_thien I'll add that to the currency list within the month!
Thien Nguyen
@aschmelyun thank you.

Hi @aschmelyun! Great product, just what I am looking for (a free alternative to YNAB). What's your business model going to be going into the future?
Andrew Schmelyun
@bagindatirtadji Thanks, I'm glad you're liking what you see! Going forward, I'm planning on adding a (small) subscription tier for more complex features like multiple accounts and planned purchases (e.g. recurring subscriptions each month). Additionally, I'm also looking at packaging up a self-hosted version of the app for a one-time flat fee that could be installed on a server or locally as a desktop app.
