BuddiesNearby is a gamified social platform that helps people connect with activity buddies who share their interests nearby. Users can create games and arenas, organize events, track participation, and compete on leaderboards. By selecting interests and exploring the map, users can discover nearby activities and communities by one click. Instead of endless scrolling, BuddiesNearby motivates real-world engagement through friendly competition and interest-based connection.
Hi Product Hunt! 👋 I’m Xiaokai, founder of BuddiesNearby.
I created BuddiesNearby from a problem I experienced myself. As a tennis and golf enthusiast, I found it surprisingly difficult to find compatible playing buddies, organize games, and track results in a meaningful way. Existing social platforms are great for consuming content, but not for helping people connect and participate in real-world activities.
This led me to a simple insight: people need a platform that connects them based on shared interests and location, making it easier to discover compatible activity buddies and build real-world communities. Someone may be your tennis buddy but not your golf buddy. Traditional social networks connect users through friendships or followers. BuddiesNearby introduces the concept of a User of Interest (UOI), where each interest creates its own profile and social graph. Connections are formed between UOIs rather than users, making relationships more relevant and interest-driven.
BuddiesNearby is a gamified social platform where users can discover activity buddies nearby, create games and arenas, organize events, track participation, and compete on leaderboards. Unlike community apps that stop at event scheduling, we use competition, achievements, and rankings to keep communities active and engaged.
In a world optimized for endless scrolling and content consumption, I am building a platform optimized for real-world participation. My goal is to help people spend less time on their screens and more time building friendships, communities, and healthy lifestyles through shared interests.
