I built Branch Workspaces because I kept losing my open tabs and editor layout every time I switched branches. I've been using it for a bit and thought, why not just publish it as open source and help anyone else who has experienced the same inconveniences; You're deep in a feature branch with 8 files open across 3 splits. You switch to main for a quick review, switch back, and now you're trying your best to remember what you had open and what you were doing.
Branch Workspaces watches for branch changes and saves/restores:
- Open tabs and their order
- Editor split layout
- Cursor positions and selections
- Scroll positions
- Pinned tab state and more
It's completely automatic; no config to set up. Just install and forget.
State is stored locally in VS Code's workspace storage. Nothing touches your repo, and nothing gets synced or uploaded.
