I spent a year building my first app in my spare time – and finally launched it

About a year ago I started building an app called BrainStorm AI.

I’m not a professional developer. I work full-time and coding is just something I enjoy getting my head into after work. I’m completely self-taught and this is the first app I’ve ever launched.

The idea actually came from a problem I have myself — I have a terrible memory and I’m useless at taking notes or staying focused during meetings and conversations. I’d constantly finish a call and realise I’d forgotten half the important things that were said.

I started wishing there was a tool that could automatically turn conversations into structured notes and tasks.

So I decided to try building it myself.

Over the next year I worked on it in my spare time using Flutter. To be honest there wasn’t one single big challenge — the whole process was a challenge. Learning things as I went, fixing bugs, figuring out AI integrations, and slowly improving the app bit by bit.

There were definitely times where I thought about giving up, but I kept chipping away at it.

This week I finally launched BrainStorm AI on the Google Play Store.

Seeing something I built actually live and downloadable felt pretty surreal.

The goal is simple: help people capture ideas, conversations and tasks automatically without needing to constantly take notes.

I'm also working on a second app related to one of my hobbies — rock climbing — which I’m hoping to launch later as well.

Right now I’m just trying to get BrainStorm AI into people’s hands and see if it’s useful to others.
