Hey everyone! I’m a dad of three, and I built Bolted because I got frustrated with the lightning apps that were already out there. Every weekend I’d be asking the same questions: * Was that strike actually close enough that we should get off the field? * How long has it been since the last nearby strike? * When is it actually safe to start playing again? Most apps show lightning, but they don’t help you make a decision. So I built Bolted to answer those questions clearly. Instead of just displaying strikes, it gives simple Clear, Caution, and Shelter guidance, automatically tracks the 30-minute all-clear countdown after the last nearby strike, and lets you monitor the places you care about with Watch Zones. On the technical side, I also had a lot of fun building it. The map is rendered with GPU-accelerated MetalKit for smooth performance, even with thousands of strikes globally. One of my favorite details: every strike creates an expanding shockwave. When that wave reaches your location, you hear the thunder exactly matching the delay you’d experience in real life.
