BitSplit changes how WordPress delivers public media. The free version reconstructs images in the visitor's browser through short-lived sessions instead of leaving a complete file at a stable URL. Pro adds audio and video protection. It works with the Media Library, Gutenberg, featured images, srcset, and native audio/video blocks without an external service. It adds friction to direct downloads, hotlinking, and generic scraping. It is not DRM or encryption.

Hi Product Hunt! I built BitSplit after looking for a way to make casual image downloading and hotlinking harder without moving WordPress media to an external SaaS. BitSplit stores incomplete image blocks and lets the visitor's browser reconstruct them through a short-lived session. It works with the normal Media Library, Gutenberg images and galleries, featured images, and responsive srcset. Important: this is not DRM or a claim that downloading is impossible. A determined user can still inspect or capture content. The goal is to raise the cost of direct downloads, hotlinking, and generic bulk scraping while keeping the usual WordPress workflow. The plugin is free and open source. I'd love feedback on compatibility, UX, and the threat model.
