Came across this useful Avatar API you can use in your projects, created by Irish app developer InfiniteLoop.ie currently in Italy (@webtropy). The Javascript API is free to use, and there is a paid XML API.

Wow! Not a Covid-19 product! Just for that, you have my upvote! For the script to place instead of the image, you are doing it wrong, trust me. Instead, you should do something like It makes way more sense and is more semantic. You can rely on Gravatar for the parameter (default icon when it's not found, for instance, size, etc). And please don't use ".aspx" in the URL, we are in 2020, not 2002 ;) Good luck!!

@cx42net Great points Cyril, especially if an image is not found it should show a default. I'm not the developer, but hopefully the developer finds this and posts replies :)

@gmail @cx42net - Thanks for the tips; I have to admit this website worked better when Picassa (i.e. Google had opened) their API to all users, but now, it's much more limited - However, as the developer, I really do appreciate the feedback - and yep, it's built on .NET (Google, me, I've written a book on it), so I'm still on my old tech stack.

@gmail @fiach_reid1 I don't mind the oold tech stack at all, you use what you are best at, and this is alright. The point I was making is the URL structure: I'm pretty sure (I hope, at least), that you can do URL rewriting, even with .Net, and have a nice URL structure. It's the file extension part that is 2002 :)

@arunpattnaik It appears their API primarily uses Google as the source for finding the images. From their website: "This API uses public profile information provided by Google, via a publicly exposed Google data source to determine the name and profile image of the user. There are over 1 billion profile pics available via this API. The API works best with gmail addresses, but many other email accounts are registered with Google."
