Is this the one that was featured on PH using Indiegogo a couple of months ago? It is by a company called "Techno" and both products look identical. I was really amazed with it back then especially because it is promised to be fixable on any standard tap.

@swiftpolar Both projects belongs to Techo. he Indiegogo projects is finished and shipped successfully. The Kickstarter project is focused on water purification. Though it looks similar on the outside, Autowater Pro has been completely redesigned for water filtration. Techo is an industry leading company( headquartered in Xiamen, China) in this field and has many independent projects going on. Techo also OEMs for other famous brand.

Hmmm... Lee's comment about their Indiegogo prompted some investigating. (https://www.indiegogo.com/projec...) On the IG, they say "Techo is an industry-leading company [with no website?] in this [field], we have many independent projects [none that I can find] going on. It's different products [Editor's Note - I don't think so], you are NOT test user for another project. the one on KS is by another team in our companyt, and it is more focused on water purification [IG apparently had optional filters?]. We also do OEM products for many famous brands." Which sort of checks out? The KS is technically done by Yelong Zhong/AutowaterPro in "Los Angeles" (autowater.co) while the IG is done by Techo (whose website, www.techohome.com, doesn't even work) It's weird that the Kickstarter claims the charger is a "MagSafe" which is really a proprietary charger from Apple, and not what they're technically using. I'd guess any American company would want to avoid getting sued by Apple, so most likely not a Los Angeles company. Oh and in the KS comments, ostensibly the company's media manager asks, apropos of nothing, "Where can be buy replacement filter?" which is a great question that makes me wonder how well thought out this whole thing is. And of course, let's look at the team. Both pages helpfully feature the same people for CEO and Product Consultant (but different images for each, making me think those are actually the people who run the company/companies). Of course names aren't listed under the images, so we need to dig deeper. In a press release for the IG campaign, the contact listed is Anna Palagi (anna@makehoney.com) who seems to be an employee of a large marketing firm with no real relation. That same article makes reference to CEO Delong Wu, a ghost on the internet as far as I can tell. Yelong Zhong, mentioned earlier as the KS creator, is another ghost. Comfortingly, reverse image searches on the team images come up empty (so probably not just stock images). It's weird that ostensibly the same team had two different timelines (KS: January 2017 - "idea"; IG: May 2016 - "product concept") to come up with the same (or extremely similar) product. Anyway, strange backstories aside, the real question is: should you buy this? Well, for $69 it doesn't seem like a huge investment, but I was able to find a *paid* review that made me re-evaluate that conclusion: https://youtu.be/pCzlgK-eAPA?t=4... TL;DR if you put something in the sink, it might just turn on and then not turn off. The unpaid reviews in the comments section of the IG campaign were far less charitable in their assessment... "Got my autowater today and the device is defective. I watched the FB videos and read the very limited instructions several times. How do I get a replacement or a refund?" The mention of the video prompted me to look a bit further to find Tsz Leung, an employee of Autowater with a fascinating YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/... Didn't the designers think how many people would be touching the tap while swiping? Prime example of solving a problem that is already solved, and that too in a worse way.

Cons:

We already have taps that sense when the user has placed their hand under the faucet. This just wastes time in doing an elaborate gesture.

If you look at the kickstarter page, you'll see that the tap has a sensor for short bursts when you place your hands under it (for washing your hands), AND it has the wave sensor for when you want to turn it on and off for longer periods of time and don't want to get your hands wet (for example, to fill up a pot of water). I think you should do a little more research before passing such harsh judgment.

Pretty cool device. But this is not really new tech right? motion sensor is already in use in sinks in public restrooms everywhere.... without the filtering aspect. I can see this on a kitchen sink where space is usually not an issue, but this seems rather bulky for most bathroom faucets. The one thing I agree with is the price. Finally a product that's smart and it's not over $200.

There is one thing I don’t get on this type of touch less faucet. How do you control the temp/speed of the water? I can’t imagine a situation in the kitchen that I just want water but I don’t care whether it is warm or cold.

Kickstarter is an amazing place to look for some cool products that are worth talking about. I came across Autowater Pro and instantly liked the idea. So, here's me talking about it on my favorite product community :) Autowater Pro is a perfect point of use appliance to manage your indoor water consumption. Within the housing, the device is installed with an activated carbon fiber composite filter to purify 100% of the contaminants. Activated Carbon Fiber (ACF) is thought to be one of the best absorbent in adsorption applications for its considerable advantages over other commercial storage materials. This seems like a super useful product and I genuinely hope it succeeds :)
