Hi Product Hunt! I'm Recep, the maker of AssetKit-Blender and its native AssetKit backend. AssetKit-Blender helps move 3D assets between Blender and other tools. Blender 5 removed the built-in COLLADA importer and exporter, so it brings DAE 1.4/1.5 support back, alongside glTF/GLB, OBJ, PLY, STL and 3MF import/export. The C backend handles parsing, decompression and mesh processing with low Python overhead. It supports scenes, materials and animation, including advanced glTF materials, compressed meshes and textures, and instancing. The repository includes reproducible import benchmarks with the assets, Blender versions and settings used. It also imports Gaussian splats from SPZ, L-GSC, PLY and glTF/GLB. An optional GPU viewport preview shows oriented splats with opacity and view-dependent color. Geometry Nodes tools provide file/object sources, subtree selection, point cropping, opacity controls and timeline-driven file sequences with shared caching. Gaussian support covers import and viewport preview; Gaussian export and an EEVEE/Cycles F12 renderer are not included. The add-on is open source and works with standard Blender 4.5 LTS and newer.
