I’m thrilled to help launch Arctype today.
I’ve been working closely with the team over the past few months at Hyper and they’ve built a product that engineers and PMs are loving.
If you’re a data-obsessed team, you’ll love using Arctype.
@_shahedk We really appreciated your help over these past few months Shah! I highly recommend everyone to apply to the next Hyper cohort if you want to work with Shah (the founder of Loom) and Josh Buckley: https://hyper.com/
Today, we’re excited to officially launch Arctype, the best database GUI for developers!
I've always loved coding and I'm a software engineer at heart. However, every time I create a new project and work with databases, it's always been an unpleasant experience. I wanted to create the database experience that I've always wanted. This is why over the past 18 months, the Arctype team and I have been working hard to make the best database client possible. Think of it as "Postman meets phpMyAdmin." We were heavily inspired by both of those products for their simplicity and power.
It has features we've always wanted in database clients: an easy-to-use UI, collaboration, and visualizations. We support most of the features that existing SQL clients today have in addition to new features like a cmd + k command palette and lots of keyboard shortcuts that make working with your databases much easier.
We currently support PostgreSQL, MySQL, and PlanetScale, but we plan to release a lot more integrations soon. Comment below and let us know what database you want us to work on next :)
If you're interested in learning more about what we're up to, please also follow our Twitter at https://twitter.com/getarctype
@justindeguzman_ This looks wonderful and surprisingly, up to now I’ve just been using hacked together free software for this. Looking forward to finally upping my SQL game!
Been using Arctype for some time now and I love the open approach to making databases accessible.
Amazing team, amazing product 🙌

I've had the opportunity to write for Arctype and use the application. I must confess that it has a very sleek and simple but efficient feeling to it. it's built the way I would picture my ideal database client.
@bogomep Thanks Bogomil! We really like DataGrip and it's very powerful, but we think it's missing a lot of modern features and there's a steep learning curve. We want to do what Figma did to improve on Photoshop and make Arctype much more accessible to developers through a clean design, collaboration, and with a UI that's easy to learn :)
After half an hour using Arctype, I have some bug feedbacks:
1. Bug:
- The first start, I created a connection and uncheck the option "Sync to cloud ...", then Save. And it lost, so I must try several times. I think this is the synchronize problem.
- Sometimes, clicking on the table to open the view doesn't work as my expectation:
- Combo bugs: Press "Add Connection". Problems:
+ No button to close the "Manage connection" dialogue. There are 2 ways: left-click outside the dialogue (inside the app) (1) or left-click inside the dialogue, then press Esc (2). If you do (2), then: the dialogue will be closed but we have another bug (4).
+ (4): Clicking the "+" button to create a new tab, but the menu with 2 menu items doesn't display. Workaround: press Cmd+T.
2. UX:
- Manage connection UI: Default UI has no close button but if you select a connection, you will see it (inconsistency UX).
- Update cell value -> data was changed immediately <- Bad UX, users always make mistakes so a mistake can cause wrong data. It's better if users can review updated data before committing changes. Don't forget to highlight the updated cells.
Finally, I believe that there are other bugs, it's normal because the version I've tested is 0.9.32.5375 (unstable), but it's not ready for production.
@ansi_dev Ansi thanks so much for this feedback. We should be able to get all these addressed in the next few days. I also like the suggestion about revieiwing updated changes. Please DM me at https://twitter.com/rettx with any more issues you find!
@greenweeds Thanks so much Lorraine, we're huge fans of Timescale also! I hope we can support it soon.

Really good!
I've been using TablePlus. The only issue I have with TablePlus is the price. As a lone developer it's a bit out of my price range.
I will definitely give this a try.
Do you have plans for Microsoft SQL Server?
@hikerlance Thanks Lance! We want Arctype to be free for individual developers forever.
We definitely plan to add Microsoft SQL Server soon. If you shoot me your email at justin@arctype.com we’ll make sure to ping you when that’s released
