Lock your mac apps

AppLockr is designed for people who want simple, local app and folder protection on macOS. You can lock any app or folder on your Mac so it requires authentication before opening, with optional auto-locking after inactivity. The app runs natively, stays lightweight, and keeps everything on your device. There are no network calls, no analytics, and no data collection. AppLockr is especially useful on shared computers or whenever you want more control over access to sensitive apps and files.

I built AppLockr because I kept running into the same problem on my own Mac. I wanted a simple way to protect a few apps and folders when someone else was using my computer, without creating extra user accounts, logging out, or changing system permissions. Everything I found either felt too heavy, relied on system-level changes, or tried to do much more than I needed. At the start, the idea was very small: just block certain apps from launching unless they were authenticated. While working on it and using it daily, the scope slowly evolved. Things like folder locking, auto-locking after inactivity, keyboard shortcuts, and a proper menu bar menu came directly from friction I noticed while actually using the app. The launch itself pushed me to clean up the codebase, focus on performance and stability, and keep the app lightweight and local-only. This release isn’t the end point, but it’s the first version that feels solid enough for real daily use.
