Hey everyone, Robby here, maker of App Scope, collecting iOS app downloads and revenue data since 2022.
I've spent the last several years manually researching individual iOS apps, not for a product, just for myself. Every time I was deciding what to build next, I'd browse the App Store, and then look for the app on Sensor Tower to gather estimates, screenshot the evidence, and log what I found: Revenue, Downloads and Monetization with screenshots for proof. Over time that spreadsheet turned into 550+ researched apps.
I kept using it privately to answer one question before committing to a build: how big is the market, are there any big successful apps in the market, how many competitors, is the market consolidated by 1-2 companies that dominate that market or not? Eventually I figured other indie devs and solo founders were asking the same question and re-doing research I'd already done. So I cleaned up the database and I'm putting it out there.
A few things worth knowing going in:
This isn't an AI-generated list of "app ideas." Every entry is manually researched with supporting evidence.
It's not a claim that any of these apps will make you money if you build something similar, it's a starting point for research, not a guarantee.
It's not a complete map of the App Store. Some niches I checked almost monthly, others more periodically, so coverage reflects what I was personally researching, not everything that exists.
"Peak Observed Revenue" means the highest level I personally recorded during my research, not necessarily the app's all-time peak.
