File Drop Box is a local-first app in the APISelf ecosystem. It runs on your own computer. Every box exposes a documented API, and the manager turns those into MCP tools, so you can drive File Drop from Claude or Cursor instead of the UI.
What it does: you pick a file on your disk and get a link. When someone opens that link, their browser connects straight to your machine and the file transfers directly. There is no upload step and no copy of the file on any server. Per link you set an expiry and a download cap, and revoking a link kills it immediately.
The free tier is free forever, no account: 1 file per link up to 1 GB, 3 days, 3 downloads. The two paid tiers are one-time payments, never a subscription.
One limit to know before installing: your computer has to be on and running the box when someone downloads, and for a really large file the recipient's browser needs roughly twice the file size free on their own disk. This is not a store and forward service. If you need to send a file and then close your laptop, this is the wrong tool.
