We kept watching personal injury clinics — pain management doctors, orthopedic surgeons, chiropractors, neurologists — struggle with EMRs that were never designed for how they actually work. They were squeezing their practice into software built for family medicine or urgent care, then spending hours on workarounds for lien billing, chasing attorneys for case updates, and documenting PI-specific notes in systems that had no idea what an ESI injection even was. The breaking point for us was realizing these clinics weren't failing because of bad doctors or bad staff. They were failing because their tools were wrong. So we built Ambula from scratch — not adapted from a generic EMR, not a plugin on top of something else. Built specifically for practices that run on personal injury liens, work with attorneys, and need documentation that actually reflects what they do every day. What surprised us most after launch: a mental health specialist found us and reached out wanting to try it — because mental health providers in the PI space face the exact same problem.
