Amal Inventory is a free inventory management system for micro and small businesses, specifically targeting those in Africa. The project aims to replace physical bookkeeping allowing micro to have visual data and make better decisions.














The Origin Story
It all started with my mum's small toy and clothing business. I noticed she was a sales wizard but tracking profits and managing inventory was a bit of a blind spot. Often, she'd end up with too much stock, or the wrong colors, leading to unsold products piling up. That's when I realized there was a real need for a simple, effective solution. I built the initial app to help her, and then the idea sparked: what if this could help millions of other micro and small businesses facing similar challenges?
Solving a Real Problem, Locally
My app tackles a core issue for small business owners: tracking sales and managing inventory effectively. It's designed to replace traditional pen-and-paper bookkeeping, providing a clear, digital history of sales, calculated profits over time, and insightful visualizations. This allows business owners to make smarter purchasing decisions, avoid overstocking, and ultimately, boost their profitability. I've even integrated barcode scanning to streamline the process and add even more value.
Crucially, this app is built to run fully offline. I understand the unique challenges faced by small businesses in regions with inconsistent internet access or high data costs. By storing all data locally on the device, business owners can manage their sales and inventory seamlessly, regardless of connectivity. This ensures continuous operation and reliability, addressing a significant local pain point.
Built with Purpose
I developed this app using Flutter and store all data securely in a SQLite database. A key feature I'm proud of is the FIFO (First-In, First-Out) batch system, which ensures highly accurate profit calculations – a crucial detail often overlooked in simple tracking tools.
The Bigger Vision
While the core offering provides immense value, I have exciting plans for the future. My goal is to make a significant impact by offering tons of value for free to an underserved market. I understand that many in my target audience aren't tech-savvy, so I'm committed to keeping most features accessible without a cost.
