I got tired of paying $40 a month for accounting software that got slower every year while what I needed from it never changed. Five years of that is $2,400 for a program that does the same thing on the last day as it did on the first.
So I built AllMy Ledger. Your company's books are one file on your own computer: a local database. No server, no account, no sign-in, no internet connection required. Every report is a query against that file. You can copy it, back it up, keep it on a drive in a cupboard, and open it in twenty years with any SQLite tool, whether or not I am still here.
I have been building fintech software since 1992. Created and launched Bitcoin.Tax in 2014, one of the first cryptocurrency tax calculators, and it is still running: over 330 million trades processed and more than 1.25 billion in capital gains calculated.
What it does:

There is an importer for QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online, and a migration wizard that takes Xero, Sage, Wave and FreshBooks exports as you downloaded them. It works out the export's shape and maps the columns for you.
What it does not do. No payroll. No live bank feeds: you import statements, you do not connect an account. No inventory. No mobile app, no web version, no multi-device sync. It is single-user: one person's books, on their machines. If you need two people in the ledger at once, this is the wrong tool and I would rather say so now than take your money.
Price: $199 once, on Windows, Mac and Linux. That includes a year of updates and email support. After that a service contract is $49 a year if you want to keep getting updates, and it is genuinely optional. The software you paid for keeps working forever without it. A future major version may be a paid upgrade.

If you left a subscription accounting tool, what finally did it? Every answer so far is either a price increase or a feature moving up a tier, and I would like be interested to know if there is anything else.
