A short history on dye, the geopolitical background of textiles, and dying technology for all you NERDS: What is special from a technical point of view is that we make (as far as I know) the most colorfast textile using really (REALLY) only natural dye made exclusively from the indigo plant. Of course, natural dyes have been around for millennia. In the 1890ish chemical dye (aniline, chemical indigo, yes, that what is in your jeans) was invented in Germany, as a means to challenge the British-American world dominance in textiles (America's Southern States: Cotton. British Empire's colonies: raw materials for dyes). Germany may have lost World War I, but chemical dyes won. Since then we have used all kinds of things as dyes, some of them turned out to be a bad idea (radium in toothpaste). But even today dyes are all but save. The European Union is one of the strictest regulators, while the United States basically allows everything that is not proven to be bad (like a little bit led here and there) little. Dyes are made of heavy metals such as mercury or cadmium. Dangerous azo compounds are being slowly phased out. But controls are weak. A Swedish government study of 2017 showed that 1/3 of all textile products contains chemicals that are potentially dangerous and illegal. Why are we accepting hazardous dyes? The answer is shockingly trivial: "Easy to make, bright and colorfast"

So we thought, if we can fix the problem of production, we can make a comeback for natural dye. The health benefits are obvious, and the environmental effects are tremendous. The textile industry and especially the dye industry is on of the main large scale polluters.

How did we do it? We used a technology that has recently been brought to a new level: Sonic waves (high frequency waves). This changes the dye physically and does not require chemical additives (We use only cotton, indigo and water). Sonic energy is sound waves with frequencies above 20,000 oscillations per second. In liquid, these high-frequency waves cause the formation of microscopic bubbles. Collapsing bubbles generate tiny but powerful shock waves which results in high-velocity microjets directed towards the solid surface of the yarn. These microjets can give rise to intra-yarn flow, increase in the rate of the mass transfer between the intra-yarn and inter-yarn pores. The result is highly colorfast textiles made without any chemicals.

I am not impartcial as I am working on starting this company. But I can say that I am one of the first tester. I used to work cosmetics company on Japan. It does not make sense how much we spent on cremes and medical treatments for skin, but when it comes to textiles we accept Chemicals in them whose name just made you wonder why they are in consumer products. Being Japanese i am very proud we being this the art of indigo textiles Back. And sleeping in them is wonderful.
