I built AI OffSwitch because I was tired of manually toggling Advanced Chat Privacy for every single WhatsApp™ Web chat — it’s tedious and easy to forget. This extension automates the process for you: it safely goes through your chats, turns on Advanced Chat Privacy, and blocks Meta AI from accessing them. Everything happens locally in your browser, so your messages and contacts stay private. Why I think it’s useful: - Saves time: No more repetitive clicks for each chat. - Keeps unread chats unread after processing. - Protects your privacy by preventing full chat exports, auto-downloading of media, and reducing online/typing/read indicators. How it works: - The extension finds your chats and navigates to Contact Info → Advanced Chat Privacy. If privacy is off, it turns it on. - Runs entirely in your browser using stable attributes for reliability. Beta notes: - Currently supports ~15–20 chats. - Scrolling through long chat lists isn’t supported yet. - This started as a personal project to save myself time and privacy headaches — now I hope it helps others who care about keeping their WhatsApp™ chats AI-free. Why enable Advanced Chat Privacy? WhatsApp’s Advanced Chat Privacy gives you more control over your conversations. It prevents Meta AI from being mentioned in chats, stops full chat exports in one go, blocks auto-downloading of media, and reduces exposure of online/typing/read indicators. Essentially, it puts you back in control of your data and visibility in every conversation — but toggling it manually per chat is tedious and easy to miss.
