I kept falling through the cracks between my CPA and my financial advisor.
My CPA files my taxes but won't touch retirement planning. My financial advisor optimizes my portfolio but doesn't think about tax implications. Neither of them knows about my rental properties. And every time I tried to connect the dots myself, I was bouncing between spreadsheets, PDFs, and three different apps — all of which wanted to send my data to their cloud.
I'm a software engineer, so I did what we do: I built my own.
AfLux started as a weekend project to parse my own tax returns and see everything in one place. Then I added rental expense tracking because my Schedule E was a mess. Then portfolio tracking because my FA's quarterly reports were always stale. Then an AI assistant because I was tired of Googling "can I contribute to a Roth IRA if..."
The privacy piece wasn't an afterthought — it was the starting point. I didn't want another app with my SSN, bank balances, and tax returns sitting on someone else's server. Everything in AfLux runs on your device. The AI runs on your device. The encryption key never leaves your device. There's no account to create, no cloud to trust, no data to breach.
I built this for people like me: professionals who manage their own finances across multiple domains and want one app that sees the full picture — without giving up their privacy to get it.
