My name is Wei.
I am a father from a small town in China, and my seven-year-old daughter, Mei, is the reason I wake up every morning.
She loves drawing butterflies and believes that every butterfly carries someone's wish to the sky. Whenever she smiles, the whole world seems brighter.
A few months ago, our lives changed forever.
Mei was diagnosed with cancer.
I still remember sitting in the hospital hallway after the doctor explained the diagnosis. My wife was holding Mei's hand, trying not to cry. Mei looked at us and asked, "Dad, when can we go home?"
I didn't have an answer.
Since that day, every morning has begun with hospital visits, treatments, and endless hope that the next test results will be better than the last. I work as much as I can, but no matter how hard I try, the cost of treatment is far beyond what our family can afford.
Every father wants to protect his child.
Every father wants to keep his promises.
I promised Mei that I would never stop fighting for her.
Some days, that promise feels heavier than I can carry alone.
Yet I still believe in kindness.
I believe that even strangers can change someone's life with a simple act of compassion.
Maybe one day Mei will run through a park again, chasing butterflies instead of spending her days in hospital rooms.
Maybe one day she will grow up, read this story, and realize that hope came from people she had never met.
Until then, I will keep holding her hand, telling her that everything will be okay, and doing everything a father can do for the child he loves.

Would love to see an audio narration option for younger kids who can't read yet, or for families where the parent wants to listen along with their child during bedtime. A gentle voice reading in English (with maybe a Mandarin toggle later) would make the story feel even more personal and special.

Really moved by this story, Wei. One suggestion that might help other families connect with it would be adding a short audio or video clip of you reading a passage aloud. Hearing your voice would make the experience feel even more personal and would help non-readers or younger children enjoy it too.
